OUR JOURNEY

2017
Founded with Global Support
Xylem Capital was founded by Matthew McGarvey and Jim Harkness with support from the Ford Foundation and Rockefeller Brothers Fund—originally as one of the first impact funds focused on China’s growing environmental footprint and demand for regenerative agriculture.
2017–2019
Building the Pipeline
We toured Southeast Asia, China, and global markets to meet dozens of pioneering companies. This laid the foundation for one of the first curated pipelines of regenerative agriculture and natural capital opportunities linked to China’s demand.
2020
Pivot During COVID
When the pandemic halted fund development, Xylem pivoted to become an investment advisory and project development platform—expanding from China to all of Asia, and from agriculture into natural capital and energy transition.
2021
Large scale project development
Xylem supported large-scale energy transition initiatives, including structuring energy transition mega-projects in Vietnam with IFC involvement, large scale reforestation and regenerative agriculture project, as well as advising governments in Laos and Vietnam on policy and project design.
Today
Bridging Global Capital & Asia’s Future
We now advise foundations, funds, and companies globally—structuring investments, guiding impact strategies, and connecting catalytic capital to regenerative agriculture, clean energy, and natural capital opportunities across Asia.
